“The Diamond Arm”

I am not a great cinema-goer. I like to spend my free time watching films at home. Last week my friend gave me the disc with interesting films produced by the Mosfilm Studio many years ago. One of them was “The Diamond Arm”. This comedy is a funny mixture of fiction and reality.

The plot of the film is the following: a group of rogues were trying to smuggle jewelry into the Soviet Union. They gave the jewels to the wrong man who travelled abroad. But when he came back to his town, they began to follow him. A lot of funny episodes happened during this hunt. Finally the smugglers were traced down by the militia.

Nikulin who played the leading role is one of my favourite actors. Sometimes he didn’t do anything funny but I started laughing the every moment he appeared on the screen. His face was enough to set me roaring with laughter. In my opinion he was an actor of great talent.

Another man playing the second best role, one of the gang, Mironov, was more to my friend’s taste. His acting was quite good. The film is full of songs and some fantastic tricks as well. Such as a car lifted by a helicopter, pistol shots in the dark, hands moving in the light of diamonds. I couldn’t call it exactly a very good film. As for me, I prefer thrillers and horror films. But I must say I enjoyed it.
